Les Verts is the result of hard work, innovation and a desire to return to grassroots farming.
Founded by father and daughter, Kerry and Rachel Green – Les Verts is proud to grow fresh, local gourmet greens for the Winnipeg market.
As a former owner of an innovative micronutrient company, Kerry’s interest in technology that moves farming forward led him to controlled environment agriculture and indoor farming. He was looking for a better way to deliver delicious and nutritious produce to local consumers year round – and tasked Rachel with finding the right mix of equipment, growing inputs and knowledge to make the dream a reality.
Rachel quickly discovered that when it came to nutritious and delicious greens, there weren’t a lot of options available to the average consumer year-round.
Essentially, we started Les Verts, our indoor farm, because we were looking for a better way to grow affordable, nutritious and fresh food here, in the Winnipeg area, and have that food available year-round. We quickly learned that when it came to greens, there weren’t a lot of options.
We discovered that we could find some gourmet greens, on occasion in specialty shops around the city, but it tended to be seasonal. So, we decided to look into indoor production systems that could deliver nutritious produce throughout the year.
Our customers are drawn to the fact that we are a small, family-owned farming operation. In addition, what we’ve been hearing is that there is a strong movement back to small, grassroots agricultural production. I feel that this type of operation could have a great fit for many rural and remote communities – so we’re very excited to see what the future holds for Les Verts!
